Dubai: Applying for Emirates ID through online ICP portal, you must follow these guidelines to upload your photograph. 

These photo guidelines must be followed whether you are applying new Emirates ID or it is due for renewal. 

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has recently updated the process for submitting residence permits and Emirates ID card applications electronically, requiring the applicant to also upload a new photograph.

According to the ICP portal, photographs may be rejected by the system if the requirements that have been listed are not met.

These are the important guidelines: 

  1. Image: high quality, recent, coloured, not older than six months (35 to 40 mm in width)
  2. Background: white.
  3. Head position: Straight, not tilted, parallel to the photographic lens.
  4. Eyes: Open towards the camera and without the use of colored lenses
  5. Features: Neutral facial expressions (natural, not exaggerated).
  6. Glasses: Acceptable as long as they do not obscure the eyes and do not reflect light.
  7. Resolution (pixels): At least 600 dpi without ink traces or shrinkage
  8. Dress code: Similar to the dress on the holder's passport
  9. Head covering: Allowed according to national dress or religious belief
