DUBAI – Thailand is emerging as one of the most sought-after destinations for Gulf families seeking holidays that suit every generation.

From grandparents looking for comfort and relaxation to younger travellers chasing festivals, food and adventure, the country is reshaping its tourism offering around multi-generational journeys.

Visitors from the Gulf are increasingly choosing longer stays, typically between 10 and 14 days, while becoming one of Thailand’s highest-spending visitor groups.

Easy access

A major factor behind Thailand’s growing popularity is improved connectivity from the Gulf. Airlines have expanded links beyond traditional gateways such as Bangkok and Phuket, with more routes reaching destinations including Krabi and Chiang Mai. Flight frequencies also increase around key travel periods such as Eid, making family trips easier to plan throughout the year.

Once in Thailand, families can find experiences tailored to different age groups within the same journey. Parents can enjoy luxury shopping centres, wellness retreats, spa experiences and riverside dining, while children can explore elephant sanctuaries, floating markets and island adventures. For older travellers, comfortable resorts, scenic surroundings and family-friendly facilities create a relaxed holiday environment where multiple generations can stay together.

Appeal among youth

Thailand’s appeal among younger Gulf travellers is also growing, driven by a packed calendar of entertainment and cultural events. December 2026 will mark the arrival of Tomorrowland in Pattaya, bringing the globally recognised music festival to Asia for the first time in a full edition.

The country also continues to attract visitors through events such as Wonderfruit and the Maha Songkran World Water Festival, held every April. Beyond festivals, Thailand offers Chiang Mai’s night markets, Bangkok’s street-food culture and rooftop venues, as well as island-hopping experiences across the southern coast.

A growing interest in filming locations from popular shows and movies has also contributed to Thailand’s appeal among younger travellers looking for shareable experiences and unique destinations.

Focus on Gulf

Thailand has also strengthened its services to meet the needs of visitors from the Middle East. Halal dining options are widely available, while prayer facilities are increasingly offered across hotels, shopping destinations and attractions. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has developed travel experiences that consider Gulf visitors’ preferences, including private transfers, personalised itineraries and travel planning around the Islamic calendar.

Ahamad Al Adam, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Dubai & Middle East Office, said: “Families from the Gulf want a destination that welcomes every member, from the youngest to the eldest. Thailand offers that rare mix of comfort, safety, value and variety, where parents can relax, teenagers find their own adventures, and the whole family leaves with shared memories.”
