WATCH – Hessa Street upgrade cuts travel time to four minutes
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the upgraded Hessa Street corridor, delivering a significant improvement to traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The 4.5-kilometre stretch has been widened and enhanced to support growing demand across key residential areas.
The project doubles road capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, easing congestion along one of Dubai’s busiest routes. Travel time on the corridor has been reduced from 15 minutes to just four minutes, offering faster and more efficient journeys for daily commuters.
Major upgrades include expanding Hessa Street to four lanes in each direction and improving key intersections at Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road. New ramps and bridges have been introduced to streamline traffic movement and reduce delays at junctions.
Hessa Street serves several prominent communities, including Jumeirah Village Circle, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Lakes Towers, with the surrounding population expected to exceed 640,000 by 2030.
Meanwhile, work is underway on Phase 2 of the project, which will extend the corridor to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The next phase is set to further double capacity and cut travel time from 24 minutes to five minutes, supporting around 650,000 residents across multiple districts.
