Abu Dhabi rolls out AI-driven Free Flow parking with automatic Darb deductions
Initial rollout begins at key facilities before wider expansion across UAE capital
ABU DHABI – The UAE capital has introduced a new smart parking system that automatically deducts fees through the Darb app wallet, eliminating the need for SMS payments, QR codes or parking machines.
Announced by Q Mobility today, the Free Flow Paid Parking System marks a major shift towards fully automated mobility services in the capital.
The system relies on artificial intelligence and automatic licence plate recognition to identify vehicles and manage parking transactions seamlessly from entry to exit, reducing manual steps for motorists.

The new system operates using advanced camera-based monitoring that detects vehicle licence plates as they enter and leave designated parking zones. Parking sessions begin automatically upon entry, with charges calculated in real time based on duration and location. Once the vehicle exits, the applicable fee is directly deducted from the user’s Darb wallet without requiring any manual confirmation.

The approach removes paper tickets and cash payments entirely, streamlining operations while improving efficiency across parking facilities. Q Mobility said the integration of AI aims to enhance accuracy and reduce congestion at payment points, creating a smoother experience for drivers across the city.
Wallet watch
Authorities have emphasised the importance of maintaining a sufficient balance in the Darb e-wallet to ensure uninterrupted service. Users with insufficient funds may face penalties or failed transactions, making pre-loading the wallet essential before using the system. The rollout will begin at selected multi-storey parking facilities and designated private parking zones, with further expansion planned in the coming months across Abu Dhabi.
The move aligns with broader regional shifts towards cashless mobility. In Dubai, parking payments are also transitioning as part of the Cashless Strategy 2026, with cash transactions at meters being phased out. Motorists there are increasingly encouraged to use the Parkin app or other digital platforms, while existing options such as Nol cards and the Dubai Now app remain available.
The Roads and Transport Authority continues to expand digital payment channels through its systems, including the RTA Dubai, supporting a broader move towards seamless, contactless urban mobility.
