Dubai International Airport rolls out smart scanners in major deal at Airport Show 2025
New technology allows liquids and laptops to stay inside hand luggage
DUBAI: On the opening day of the Airport Show 2025, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) awarded a landmark contract to Smiths Detection for the installation of advanced checkpoint screening systems at Dubai International Airport (DXB).
The multi-year agreement will see state-of-the-art HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S scanners rolled out across Terminals 1, 2, and 3, bringing cutting-edge technology to the world’s busiest international airport.
These next-generation scanners offer 3D, high-resolution imaging and are equipped with integrated automatic object recognition through iCMORE software. One of the key benefits for passengers is the ability to leave laptops and liquids inside their carry-on bags during screening – a move expected to significantly cut processing time and improve overall passenger convenience.
Smart security at DXB
Certified by international aviation regulators including the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S units come equipped with smart lane management systems and automated tray return features. This marks a major upgrade in both security performance and operational throughput, further elevating DXB’s capabilities as global air traffic continues to surge.

Future-ready vision
The new screening initiative is part of a broader transformation effort led by DAEP to future-proof airport infrastructure and improve capacity. Her Excellency Eng. Suzanne Al Anani, CEO of DAEP, described the move as a proactive approach to building secure, intelligent travel ecosystems that accommodate growing international demand.
Meanwhile, Eng. Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, highlighted the partnership as a strategic step in integrating smart infrastructure at scale: “It is an investment in operational efficiency and the safety of millions of travellers.”
