Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day celebrated in Dubai
New initiatives launched to serve and connect Pakistani community in UAE
DUBAI: The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai today hosted a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the country’s 78th Independence Day with national pride and enthusiasm.
A large number of Pakistani community members attended, as messages from Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister were read out.
Hussain Muhammad, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai, congratulated the community and paid tribute to Pakistan’s resilience as historic milestones of professional excellence and national resolve. He urged the diaspora to contribute positively to both the UAE and Pakistan, while expressing gratitude to the UAE government for supporting celebrations, including the 10 August mega-event at Expo City Dubai.
Students from the Pakistan Education Academy Dubai performed national songs, and a quiz competition added to the festivities.
Pakistan Independence Day in Abu Dhabi
In the capital, the Embassy of Pakistan marked the day with a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by expatriates and their families. Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi congratulated guests, emphasised Pakistan’s founding principles, and prayed for the nation’s peace, prosperity, and stability.
He commended the Pakistani community’s contributions, noting Dh29 billion in remittances last year. He also unveiled a new online tracking system for passports and NICOP, developed in-house to improve consular services. Highlighting educational achievements, he announced two community schools had achieved a “Good” ranking for the first time in two decades, with more Pakistani private schools invited to open in the UAE.
Where was the largest celebration?
Ambassador Tirmizi described the 10 August celebration at Dubai Expo City as the largest Pakistan Independence Day gathering worldwide, attracting around 60,000 attendees. Organised by Emirates Loves Pakistan with the Pakistan Association Dubai, the event set a new benchmark for the scale of overseas national day celebrations.
