DUBAI: Tajikistani singer and social media star Abdu Rozik was detained over the weekend at Dubai International Airport after arriving on a flight from Montenegro.
The 21-year-old, known for his viral videos and television appearances, was reportedly released later the same day on bail with travel restrictions.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the reason for his brief detention, though Dubai Police confirmed the arrest via the Dubai Media Office to local media outlets. Unverified online speculation linked the incident to theft allegations, but no confirmation has been issued by officials.
Who is Abdu Rozik?
Originally from Tajikistan, Rozik has lived in Dubai for several years and holds a UAE Golden Visa. Standing just over three feet tall due to a growth hormone deficiency, he is one of the Middle East’s most recognisable young celebrities, having gained popularity through music, reality TV, and social media.
Just hours after his release, Rozik posted a video on Instagram, showing him accepting an award at the India International Influencers Awards (IIIA) held on 12 July at the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights.
The clip made no mention of the earlier incident.
Fame and scrutiny
In 2024, Rozik launched his UK-based restaurant brand Habibi and made his boxing debut at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena. That same year, he was summoned by India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a money laundering investigation tied to a hospitality company. Though not named as an accused, the development added to his growing public scrutiny.
He also appeared in multiple Indian reality shows, including Bigg Boss 16 and Laughter Chefs: Entertainment Unlimited Season 2, which he exited during Ramadan.
Last year, Rozik made headlines for his engagement to an Emirati girl. The engagement, widely covered across regional media, was later called off without a public explanation.
