DUBAI – The UAE's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched the UAE Award for Higher Education, a new national initiative designed to recognise outstanding institutions and individuals contributing to the country's higher education ecosystem.

The first edition of the award has been introduced under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, , Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council. It aims to encourage excellence, innovation and sustainable impact across the higher education sector while supporting the UAE's long-term development priorities.

The award honours achievements across universities, vocational education institutions, transformative projects, pioneering individuals and strategic partners that contribute to advancing higher education in the country.

Key objectives

According to the ministry, the initiative seeks to recognise institutions and individuals that have played a significant role in strengthening the UAE's higher education ecosystem. It also aims to promote a culture of excellence and innovation across higher education institutions while encouraging transformative projects that enhance the sector's future readiness.

Other objectives include aligning higher education and scientific research outcomes with national priorities, fostering impactful partnerships between higher education institutions and key economic sectors, and highlighting successful models and best practices that encourage knowledge exchange.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said higher education is a fundamental pillar in preparing national talent and equipping individuals to participate effectively in the labour market.

Award categories

The award features four main categories. The Leadership category recognises leading universities, higher education and vocational education institutions, as well as outstanding entrepreneurs in the sector. The Readiness category honours transformative higher education projects, while the Pioneers category celebrates individuals who have made notable contributions to higher education.

The National Impact category recognises higher education partners that deliver tangible contributions as well as outstanding international universities. Sheikh Abdullah said the award seeks to foster a culture of excellence and innovation, encourage initiatives that create sustainable impact, support national priorities and strengthen the UAE's readiness for the future.
