RTA opens new bridge at Dubai Harbour cutting journey time to 3 minutes
Direct connection improves mobility for motorists arriving from Jebel Ali and Deira
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority has inaugurated a new bridge in the Dubai Harbour on June 19, 2026, reinforcing the emirate’s ongoing drive to expand integrated transport infrastructure.
The development is positioned as a key upgrade supporting Dubai’s rapid urban and economic expansion, particularly along its waterfront districts.
Designed to improve access to one of the city’s most prominent leisure destinations, the project strengthens connectivity across major residential and commercial corridors. The bridge also enhances entry routes for motorists arriving via major highways, contributing to smoother traffic distribution across the network.
Faster access
The newly opened structure provides a direct link from Sheikh Zayed Road into Dubai Harbour, significantly reducing travel time in the area from 12 minutes to just 3 minutes. It features two lanes in each direction and can accommodate up to 6,000 vehicles per hour, easing congestion during peak traffic periods. The connection improves access for motorists travelling from both Jebel Ali and Deira, offering a more streamlined route into the waterfront district.

The bridge begins at Interchange 5 near the American University in Dubai and extends into Dubai Harbour Street, crossing several key intersections along the corridor.
Design scale
Spanning a total length of 1,500 metres, the project integrates five ramps within the wider road network to ensure smoother traffic flow across multiple directions. Construction works have reached around 90 per cent completion, with major structural components already in place. The development includes at-grade improvements at four intersections to enhance overall connectivity and reduce bottlenecks across adjoining routes. Engineers and planners have focused on ensuring efficient distribution of vehicles across entry and exit points to support long-term traffic demand.
Wider works
The bridge forms part of a broader package of infrastructure enhancements that include surface improvements along the corridor and upgrades at key junctions linked to the route. These works are designed to improve traffic circulation across surrounding roads and support the growing demand in the area. Dubai Harbour, located between Palm Jumeirah and Bluewaters Island, continues to evolve as a major waterfront destination featuring large-scale residential and leisure developments. The wider project aligns with the authority’s strategy to expand an integrated transport network that supports ongoing urban development and improves accessibility across key districts.
