Fleet expansion aligns with Dubai’s strategic aviation growth ambitions
DUBAI – flydubai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing for 75 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with options for 75 more.
Valued at US$13 billion, the agreement strengthens the airline’s fleet strategy while supporting Dubai’s ambitious aviation vision.
The signing ceremony took place at the Dubai Airshow 2025 in the presence of industry leaders and dignitaries.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, signed the MoU alongside Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Also present was Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of flydubai.
Sheikh Ahmed highlighted the importance of proactive fleet planning and said that anticipating future needs remains central to the airline’s success. He emphasised that Dubai’s world-class infrastructure, open-skies policies and ability to attract global talent have created an ecosystem that enables airlines like flydubai to innovate, expand and play a key role in shaping the future of aviation.
Fleet expansion
Sheikh Ahmed also noted that the new agreement will support the airline’s growth and help replace existing aircraft. The 737 MAX family offers flexibility, commonality, and the range capabilities needed to serve flydubai’s expanding network. He added that fleet planning positions the airline to support major developments, including contributing to the expansion plans of Dubai World Central.
flydubai currently operates a young and efficient fleet of 96 Boeing aircraft, including 27 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800, 66 Boeing 737 MAX 8, and three Boeing 737 MAX 9.
Boeing’s perspective
Stephanie Pope praised flydubai’s continued trust in Boeing, noting that this marks their fourth 737 order. She said that flydubai, as one of the world’s first 737 MAX operators, continues to demonstrate confidence in the aircraft’s value and performance.
Pope added that Boeing aircraft will remain the backbone of flydubai’s future growth and connectivity ambitions.
