Etihad and Vietnam Airlines launch codeshare to expand Asia, Europe connections
Frequent flyer collaboration offers greater flexibility and rewards
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways and Vietnam Airlines are strengthening travel ties between the UAE and Vietnam through a newly launched codeshare partnership.
The agreement enhances Etihad’s recently inaugurated service between Abu Dhabi and Hanoi, offering travellers seamless connections across multiple destinations with a single ticket, one check-in, and automatic baggage transfer. Abu Dhabi is now positioned as a key hub linking Vietnam to the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said the partnership “delivers significant value to our guests by unlocking access to some of Asia’s most dynamic and popular destinations. Our Abu Dhabi-Hanoi service has been warmly received, and this codeshare transforms it into a gateway to Vietnam’s most exciting cities.”
Frequent flyer benefits
The collaboration also includes a frequent flyer agreement between Etihad Guest and Vietnam Airlines’ Lotusmiles programme. Launched in July 2025, this arrangement allows members of both loyalty programmes to earn and redeem miles across the combined global networks, enhancing convenience and flexibility for frequent travellers.
Nguyen Quang Trung, Director of Corporate Planning and Development at Vietnam Airlines, noted the agreement “offers seamless access to Etihad’s network across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, while allowing more travellers to experience Vietnam Airlines’ signature warmth and hospitality.” He added that the expanded frequent-flyer collaboration strengthens tourism and economic ties between Vietnam and the UAE.
Expanded destinations
Under the codeshare, Vietnam Airlines passengers will gain access to six additional destinations via Etihad, including Athens, Addis Ababa, Bahrain, Muscat, Cairo, and Istanbul. This significantly expands Vietnam Airlines’ reach into Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, complementing Etihad’s extensive network and providing travellers with more options for business and leisure journeys.
