New Sheikh Zayed Road bridge opens in Dubai
DUBAI – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has opened a new 1,000-metre, two-lane bridge linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street as part of the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project.
The structure can handle up to 3,000 vehicles per hour and reduces journey time on the route from six minutes to one minute.
The wider project, now more than 60 per cent complete, includes five bridges spanning a total of 5,000 metres and the conversion of the roundabout into a signalised at-grade intersection. Three bridges are already operational, while two more are scheduled to open in October.
Once fully completed, the upgrade is expected to cut average intersection delays from 12 minutes to 90 seconds and improve traffic flow across key corridors serving more than half a million residents and visitors in central Dubai.
