Dubai to roll out EV supercharging across 600 parking spaces in parks and beaches
First phase to deliver 75 stations within two years
DUBAI – The Dubai Municipality has unveiled an ambitious initiative to install electric vehicle (EV) supercharging stations across 600 parking spaces in parks, beaches, and recreational facilities, marking a significant step in the emirate’s push towards sustainable mobility.
Backed by an investment of Dh150 million, the project is being implemented in partnership with Emarat EV Charging Stations Company. The announcement reflects a broader strategy to integrate clean transport solutions into everyday public spaces while enhancing user convenience.
The rollout forms part of Dubai’s long-term vision to transform urban infrastructure into a seamless ecosystem where sustainability, mobility, and lifestyle intersect. By embedding EV charging facilities into high-footfall destinations, authorities aim to make environmentally responsible choices more accessible to residents and visitors alike.
Green vision
The initiative aligns closely with the objectives of the Greenery and Parks Strategy 2040, positioning public parks and beaches as more than just leisure destinations. Instead, these spaces are being redefined as active contributors to Dubai’s sustainable mobility ecosystem. The integration of EV infrastructure into these locations enhances accessibility to clean transport while elevating the overall visitor experience.
Officials highlighted that visitors will be able to charge their vehicles while enjoying a range of recreational activities, including sports, family outings, children’s play areas, and waterfront promenades. This approach is designed to embed sustainability into daily routines, making it a natural extension of lifestyle rather than a separate effort.
The project also supports the wider goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which encourages private sector participation in infrastructure development. Through its partnership with UAEV, Dubai Municipality is leveraging industry expertise and innovation to deliver future-ready public services.
Phased rollout
The first phase of the initiative will see the installation of 75 EV supercharging stations across 150 parking bays over the next two years. These stations will be strategically distributed across major destination parks, neighbourhood parks, and public beaches to ensure wide geographic coverage.
Authorities confirmed that the rollout will prioritise accessibility in high-traffic areas, allowing both residents and tourists to benefit from convenient charging options. The long-term plan extends to 600 parking spaces, creating a comprehensive network that supports the growing adoption of electric vehicles across the emirate.
The move comes amid a surge in EV ownership in the UAE, with recent figures indicating that more than 52 percent of residents are opting to buy or lease electric vehicles. Factors such as lower maintenance costs and the unification of charging tariffs in 2024 have contributed to this shift, accelerating demand for accessible charging infrastructure.
Strategic push
Senior officials emphasised the importance of integrating EV charging into everyday locations. Eng Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Chairman of UAEV, described the partnership as a major step towards expanding access to charging infrastructure across community hubs.
He noted that integrating charging solutions into parks, markets, and public facilities makes sustainable mobility more practical for users. The collaboration, he added, reflects a shared commitment to advancing the UAE’s clean mobility ambitions while improving quality of life.
Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the initiative’s role in transforming public spaces into integrated, future-ready environments. By embedding EV charging infrastructure into these areas, the project supports evolving lifestyles while encouraging environmentally responsible choices.
Ali Al Darwish, Acting CEO of UAEV, also underscored the importance of expanding charging networks into everyday community settings, noting that accessibility remains a key driver in accelerating EV adoption.
Clean transition
The project contributes to the UAE’s broader strategy to transition towards a sustainable mobility ecosystem, with a national target of increasing electric vehicle adoption to 50 percent of the total fleet by 2050. It aligns with key national frameworks, including the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050.
Beyond mobility, the initiative reflects a wider transformation in urban planning, where public spaces are being designed as smart, sustainable environments that support wellbeing and modern living patterns. By integrating technology and clean energy solutions, Dubai is positioning its parks and beaches as critical components of its future urban landscape.
Dubai Municipality also reiterated its commitment to engaging private sector partners, investors, and innovation-driven companies in shaping the next generation of public infrastructure.
