Wizz Air announces return to Abu Dhabi with Larnaca flights from November
Four weekly flights planned between Cyprus and the UAE capital
DUBAI – Wizz Air has announced the return of its direct flights between Larnaca and Abu Dhabi, resuming from 15 November 2025.
Flights on the reinstated route will operate four times per week, every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. One-way fares start at €24.99, with tickets already available through the airline’s website and the WIZZ app. Wizz Air said strong demand is expected for the relaunched connection between Cyprus and the UAE capital.
The announcement comes after the airline disclosed in July that it would suspend its locally based operations in Abu Dhabi from 1 September, citing operational challenges, geopolitical volatility and stiff competition in the regional aviation market.
Larnaca–Abu Dhabi flights
According to Wizz Air, the return of the Larnaca–Abu Dhabi service highlights its commitment to offering affordable travel options while maintaining its presence in key Middle Eastern markets. The airline, which is headquartered in Budapest and listed on the London Stock Exchange, said the decision reflects a recalibrated approach rather than a full-scale exit from the UAE.
The relaunched service will see the airline’s trademark pink and white aircraft back at Zayed International Airport, less than three months after its previous withdrawal. Wizz Air had been among the first ultra-low-cost carriers to establish a hub in Abu Dhabi, launching operations under the Wizz Air Abu Dhabi brand.
Strategic shift
The airline’s July announcement pointed to three main factors behind its earlier withdrawal: engine reliability constraints in hot climates, regulatory hurdles, and instability in the region. These, it said, had limited its ability to scale profitably compared with its European operations.
Despite these headwinds, Wizz Air has emphasised that selective routes like Larnaca–Abu Dhabi remain viable. Its broader strategy is to focus growth in Central and Eastern Europe, along with specific Middle Eastern connections that can be operated sustainably.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi
Before scaling back, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi had operated to more than 20 regional and international destinations, carrying over 3.5 million passengers in 2024 and contributing significantly to Abu Dhabi’s inbound traffic. The airline also introduced innovations such as the Wizz MultiPass and All You Can Fly subscription models, which sold out rapidly in the UAE.
Its decision to resume flights from Cyprus suggests that demand on specific routes remains strong enough to support continued services, even as the airline reduces its wider Gulf footprint.
Tickets for the relaunched service are available immediately at introductory fares, with bookings expected to rise in the run-up to the first flight in November.
