Wizz Air Abu Dhabi discontinues tickets for 7 European destinations this summer
Dedicated 24‑hour hotline launched for affected UAE travellers
ABU DHABI: Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has abruptly pulled ticket sales for services from Abu Dhabi to Belgrade, Sarajevo and several other European destinations in what appears to be a comprehensive network overhaul.
Final flights are scheduled: Belgrade on 19 July and Sarajevo on 31 August. Other affected routes include Sofia and Cluj (now ended), and forthcoming final flights to Varna (14 July), Tirana (20 July) and Kutaisi (29 July), according to EX-YU Aviation News.
The suspension extends to services currently on sale: Budapest (until 1 September), Vienna (to 21 September), Krakow (29 July–19 September), Katowice (to 26 October), Astana and Samarkand (both from 1 November). Wizz has warned that further network cuts may follow.
Passenger support
Affected flyers are urged to contact the newly launched 24‑hour hotline at +361 677 7530 (international roaming charges apply), as more than two‑thirds of those impacted booked via online travel agencies and lack direct contact details with the airline. Where only return legs are cancelled, passengers may also claim full refunds for outbound flights via the regular call centre.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi – the exclusive operator on the Belgrade and Sarajevo routes – offered up to five weekly year‑round services to Belgrade, and a daily seasonal flight to Sarajevo. In 2024, the Belgrade connection carried 82,883 passengers. Both routes were inaugurated in mid‑2021 and were flown using 239‑seat Airbus A321neo aircraft.
Engine issues
The shake‑up comes amid ongoing engine inspections affecting Wizz Air’s A320neo/A321neo fleet. The Pratt & Whitney PW1100G‑JM (‘Leap’) engines have faced durability problems due to dust ingestion in the Middle East. In some cases, up to 42 aircraft were grounded at the end of the fiscal year for inspections. These systemic inspections, along with operational strain, have forced Wizz to reallocate aircraft and reduce service frequencies across its Abu Dhabi hub.

Tickets are no longer available on the airline’s website for the affected routes, and passengers holding bookings should monitor communications from Wizz Air or contact the hotline immediately. With the reshuffle in effect, travellers must rebook or claim refunds swiftly.
