ABU DHABI – The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), operating under the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi, has launched field trials of a 23-foot autonomous patrol boat as part of its strategy to advance smart mobility and modernise maritime transport systems.

The initiative is being carried out under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Blue Gulf Group. It reflects a broader push to integrate innovative technologies into public transport infrastructure, strengthening the emirate’s position in autonomous mobility development.

The trials mark a significant step towards deploying intelligent maritime solutions designed to support monitoring and operational efficiency across Abu Dhabi’s waterways.

Sea trials

The autonomous patrol boat has been developed to assist in monitoring maritime channels and enhancing oversight activities in coordination with Abu Dhabi Maritime. Equipped with advanced autonomous control technologies, the vessel is designed to operate with reduced human intervention while maintaining high levels of precision in surveillance tasks.

The system is expected to support compliance with maritime regulations, helping ensure safer navigation conditions across busy waterways.

Smart patrol

Through the deployment of autonomous patrol capabilities, the initiative aims to improve the accuracy and responsiveness of maritime monitoring operations. The ITC emphasised that the trials contribute to reinforcing safety standards while enabling more efficient resource allocation in routine patrol activities. By integrating smart technologies, the project also supports sustainability objectives, reducing operational inefficiencies and advancing a more connected maritime infrastructure.

Maritime tech

The initiative forms part of a wider strategy to develop an advanced autonomous maritime ecosystem in Abu Dhabi. It aligns with ongoing efforts to adopt innovative digital solutions across transport sectors, ensuring that monitoring systems remain adaptive to urban expansion and increasing mobility demands.

The collaboration between regulatory and investment entities highlights a coordinated approach to building a future-ready transport network.
