DUBAI – Dubai Police have taken decisive action against a motorist who deliberately removed his vehicle’s front number plate before committing dangerous traffic violations, including running a red light at high speed.
Authorities confirmed that the driver was apprehended after advanced monitoring systems successfully identified and tracked the vehicle despite the attempted evasion.
The incident, which was captured on video and shared by Dubai Police, highlights the growing capabilities of smart traffic systems in detecting violations and ensuring road safety. Officials said the driver’s actions not only endangered his own life but also posed a serious threat to other road users, particularly at busy intersections where such behaviour can lead to severe collisions.

Under Decree No. 30 of 2023, the vehicle has been impounded, with a release fee set at Dh50,000. The driver has also been referred to the competent authorities for further legal proceedings.
Smart tracking
According to Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, the vehicle involved, identified as a Nissan Patrol, was flagged by advanced surveillance systems after being linked to repeated serious violations across multiple locations. The driver had removed the front licence plate in an apparent attempt to bypass detection by smart traffic cameras.
Despite this, the system was able to monitor and track the vehicle using other identifiers and technologies designed to detect manipulation or irregularities. Traffic patrols were subsequently dispatched, leading to the vehicle being located and stopped.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan emphasised that tampering with licence plates constitutes a serious offence, particularly when combined with other dangerous actions such as reckless driving and signal violations. He noted that such behaviour reflects a clear disregard for public safety and significantly increases the likelihood of high-impact accidents.

Authorities underscored that running a red light remains one of the most hazardous traffic offences due to the high risk of collisions at intersections, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. The addition of deliberate attempts to evade detection further compounds the severity of the violation.
Dubai Police reiterated that their systems are equipped with advanced capabilities to identify vehicles even when attempts are made to alter or conceal identifying features. Specialised teams work continuously to monitor road activity and respond swiftly to serious offences.
Officials warned that such actions may go beyond standard traffic violations, potentially leading to judicial accountability for endangering lives. Motorists were urged to adhere strictly to traffic rules, respect signals, and avoid any attempts to manipulate enforcement systems.
