New safety rules take flight at Emirates
DUBAI – Starting today, Emirates has enforced a ban on the use of power banks during flights.
Passengers may still carry one power bank under 100Wh, but they cannot use it to charge devices or recharge it inflight.
The devices must be stored under seats or in seat pockets, not in overhead bins, and remain prohibited in checked luggage.
The Dubai-based airline introduced the rule after a safety review, citing global incidents linked to lithium batteries and the risks of ‘thermal runaway.’
By implementing the ban, Emirates aims to minimise inflight hazards and ensure cabin crew can act swiftly in the rare event of a power bank malfunction.
