Abu Dhabi bans crypto mining on farmland
Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has banned cryptocurrency mining on agricultural land, warning of penalties up to Dh100,000, which double for repeat offences.
Farms misusing land for mining will lose authority services, have electricity cut, and face equipment confiscation.
Both owners and tenants are liable, with cases referred for further legal action.
The penalty marks a major increase from last year’s Dh10,000 fine, signalling a tougher stance to safeguard sustainability and ensure farmlands remain dedicated to agriculture and livestock.
