UAE confirms 4-6 month food reserves as imports continue uninterrupted
1,260 hotels, 40,000 tourism firms active
DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) maintains strategic reserves of essential goods sufficient to meet domestic demand for a period ranging between four and six months, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, confirmed during the government media briefing on Tuesday.
He described food security as a “red line”, stressing that precautionary planning and proactive strategies remain central to safeguarding market stability amid regional developments.
Import activity is proceeding according to plan, with no disruptions recorded in supply chains related to goods and products. Authorities are conducting daily monitoring of stock levels in coordination with suppliers to ensure sustained availability across markets nationwide.
Supply stability
Al Marri said the UAE benefits from an extensive global trade network, enabling it to identify alternative markets swiftly and respond effectively to evolving circumstances. Strategic reserves of key commodities are being managed and distributed across the emirates in a structured and balanced manner to guarantee continued access.
He added that there are no indicators of supply chain disturbances, and price stability is being closely observed as part of ongoing oversight measures.
Tourism preparedness
The Minister of Economy and Tourism also highlighted the continued readiness of the country’s tourism ecosystem, which includes more than 1,260 hotels and over 40,000 tourism-related establishments. Coordination between the Ministry, local tourism authorities, hotel operators and tourism companies remains ongoing to ensure the safety, security and comfort of visitors.
The government has confirmed it will cover accommodation and hospitality costs for stranded travellers affected by flight disruptions, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential services and logistical support during the limited operational phase.
Essential services
According to the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, essential services including energy, water, telecommunications, transport, healthcare and the supply of goods are functioning efficiently and without interruption.
Business continuity plans have been activated as a precautionary measure to ensure full sector readiness. Distance learning remains in place for now to safeguard students and staff, with a decision expected within 24 hours regarding a return to classrooms.
