UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation launches new ‘Supporting Family Award’
Initiative honours families for consistent support of young athletes
ABU DHABI – The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation has introduced the Supporting Family Award at the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Awards, reflecting the nation’s designation of 2026 as the Year of Family.
The initiative recognises families whose consistent involvement in athletes’ lives extends beyond encouragement from the stands, helping foster discipline, commitment, and skill development.
Supporting Family Award
The award highlights the essential role families play in an athlete’s journey. By providing daily support and a positive environment, families contribute significantly to the growth and performance of their sons and daughters.
Recipients will be chosen based on their engagement in both championships and training programmes, setting an example of effective and supportive family involvement.

Honouring families during the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Awards emphasises how family presence at competitions is now considered a vital factor in athlete performance. The awards ceremony, regarded as one of the most prestigious globally, will showcase the families whose contributions directly influence athletes’ progress and achievements.
Federation initiatives
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, stated, “Jiu-jitsu is built on strong values, and family sits at the centre of those values. That is why we introduced the ‘Supporting Family Award’ as part of the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Awards. Family presence builds confidence, discipline, and stability, all of which are reflected in athletes’ performance.”

The award forms part of a wider programme that includes family-focused activities across the Federation’s championship events. Children’s programmes, community partnerships, and extensive media coverage underline the role of families as an integral part of the sport. By shining a spotlight on family support, the Federation aims to strengthen the culture of encouragement and collective success in Jiu-Jitsu.
