Traffic plan aims to keep commuters moving safely
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has temporarily closed the bus and taxi service road at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station until the end of 2026 as work continues to expand one of the busiest stations on the Dubai Metro network.
The closure is part of a major upgrade designed to accommodate growing passenger demand at the key Red Line stop.
Authorities have assured commuters that a comprehensive traffic management plan is in place to minimise disruption and maintain safe access throughout the construction period.

The affected service road, located along Sheikh Zayed Road near the station, will be reserved exclusively for construction vehicles until the project is completed. The station is a major transport hub serving visitors travelling to Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the wider Downtown Dubai area.

To support continued public transport operations, RTA has introduced an integrated traffic management plan that includes a new bus lay-by alongside the existing facility, allowing bus services to continue operating during construction. Alternative parking areas have also been designated for motorists where required.
Directional signage has been installed around the station and nearby roads, including guidance for motorists travelling towards Jebel Ali and Bur Dubai, helping drivers and commuters navigate the temporary changes.

RTA has urged residents and visitors to follow all directional signs, observe the designated speed limits and begin their journeys earlier to allow additional travel time.
"Please adhere to the directional signs and specified speeds, and set off early to ensure you reach your destinations on time," the authority said, adding that the measures are intended to ensure the safety of both public transport users and other road users throughout the project.
The station expansion will increase passenger capacity by 65 per cent, raising hourly capacity from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers. Daily handling capacity is expected to reach up to 220,000 passengers, helping ease congestion during peak travel periods, including New Year's Eve celebrations and major public holidays. RTA said the temporary road closure will remain in place until the end of 2026 while construction progresses.
