Etihad highlights Dh130bn boost to UAE economy at Make it in the Emirates
Abu Dhabi-based airline generates more than Dh29bn in annual revenue through the export of aviation and logistics services to global markets
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways is highlighting its position as one of the UAE’s leading exporters of services and a key contributor to national economic growth at Make it in the Emirates (MIITE) 2026, held at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from 4th to 7th May.
The airline is using the industrial platform to demonstrate how aviation supports manufacturing, trade and tourism ecosystems. Its participation comes as MIITE brings together government, industry leaders and investors to advance the UAE’s industrial strategy.
Etihad says its global network continues to generate substantial economic value through connectivity, cargo and visitor flows. It also underscores its role in developing Emirati talent and strengthening local supply chains.
Global reach
Etihad generates more than Dh29 billion annually through the export of aviation and logistics services, reinforcing its presence across international markets. Its broader contribution through tourism, trade and connectivity drives over Dh130 billion in economic activity across the UAE economy.

Over the past four years, the airline has more than doubled seat capacity into Abu Dhabi, rising from 6.4 million to 13.4 million seats, significantly expanding inbound travel and improving global accessibility. This expansion has strengthened Abu Dhabi’s position as a key aviation hub, supporting business travel, leisure tourism and investment inflows, while reinforcing the capital’s integration with major global destinations.
Cargo expansion
Etihad Cargo plays a central role in enabling the movement of UAE-produced goods to international destinations through integrated logistics solutions. In 2025, it handled more than Dh120 billion worth of goods, linking Abu Dhabi’s industrial base with global supply chains across multiple regions.
The cargo operations support essential sectors including pharmaceuticals, advanced technology, automotive components and perishables, ensuring time-sensitive delivery and reliability. Its expanding network enhances the UAE’s competitiveness in global trade logistics and reinforces Abu Dhabi’s role as a distribution gateway for high-value and critical goods.
Local value
The airline’s contribution to the domestic economy is also reflected through its supply chain localisation and procurement activities. In 2025, Etihad directed Dh8.3 billion to suppliers under the UAE’s In-Country Value programme, engaging more than 1,200 UAE-based companies. These include SMEs, female-owned enterprises and businesses owned by People of Determination, broadening participation across the economy and strengthening industrial inclusion.
Additionally, Etihad has enabled more than $100 million in foreign direct investment into the UAE through strategic partnerships and procurement initiatives that support industrial capability building and long-term economic diversification.
On Tuesday, Dr Nadia Bastaki, Chief People, Government and Corporate Affairs Officer, will join a panel discussion focused on building a globally competitive Emirati talent pipeline and advancing Emiratisation priorities within aviation.
