FIFA unveils data-driven power rankings for 2026 World Cup stars
Wenger-led system delivers objective insights across all key match dimensions
DUBAI/ZURICH – World’s top football body has unveiled the FIFA Power Rankings, a pioneering data-led system designed to measure and showcase individual player performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The new framework is built using the organisation’s Enhanced Football Intelligence algorithms, aiming to deliver objective, match-based insights across every stage of the tournament.
Developed under the guidance of Arsène Wenger, the initiative marks a shift away from opinion-based assessment towards data-driven evaluation. Wenger stated that players will now be assessed through structured match data rather than subjective judgment, spanning attacking, creativity and defending contributions.
How does it work
In every match, each outfield player who meets the required minutes threshold will receive a score from zero to ten across three core areas: attacking, creativity and defending. Goalkeepers will be evaluated separately, with two categories covering in possession and defending the goal.

The system is powered by FIFA’s extensive match data and Enhanced Football Intelligence tools, ensuring consistent measurement across all fixtures. Scores will be released within four hours of the final whistle, providing near real-time performance analysis throughout the tournament.
Live updates
Tournament classifications will go live after the first round of matches, once every team has completed its opening fixture. From that point, rankings will update after each game, reflecting both individual match impact and overall tournament progression. FIFA will publish the top 100 players in each category, offering a detailed, evolving picture of performance across the competition.
FIFA World Cup 2026
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026, with the opening match set to take place in Mexico. Hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, the expanded 48-team tournament will run for approximately five weeks, concluding on July 19, 2026.
Matches will be staged across multiple stadiums across North America, bringing together global audiences for football’s largest international showcase.
