DUBAI – Dubai’s gold market opened the weekend with lower retail prices, extending a downward trend that has gathered pace over the past several days.

The emirate remains one of the world's most closely watched gold trading hubs, with residents, tourists and investors monitoring daily movements in jewellery prices.

Fresh rates released by Dubai Jewellery Group on Saturday showed notable declines across all major categories of gold.

According to Dubai Jewellery Group's suggested retail rates for Saturday, 24K gold was priced at Dh521.75 per gram, while 22K stood at Dh483.00. Meanwhile, 21K gold was selling at Dh463.25 per gram, 18K at Dh397.00 and 14K at Dh309.75.

The latest figures represent a significant drop from Friday’s levels. On Friday, 24K gold was trading at Dh535.75 per gram, meaning Saturday’s rate was lower by Dh14.00. Similar declines were recorded across other categories, with 22K losing Dh13.00 per gram, 21K falling Dh12.25, 18K dropping Dh10.75 and 14K decreasing Dh8.25.

The broader weekly picture shows a sustained retreat in prices. On Thursday, 24K gold was priced at Dh539.75 per gram before easing to Friday’s level and then falling further on Saturday. Rates on Wednesday stood at Dh538.50, while Tuesday recorded Dh544.25. On Monday, 24K gold was at Dh544.00 per gram.

Comparing Monday with Saturday, 24K gold has declined by Dh22.25 per gram. Over the same period, 22K gold fell from Dh503.75 to Dh483.00, a decrease of Dh20.75. The 21K category slipped by Dh19.75, while 18K dropped by Dh17.00. Fourteen-karat gold recorded a decline of Dh13.25 per gram over the five-day period.

Global gold market

Internationally, gold prices remain below the record levels reached earlier this year. Spot gold climbed to an all-time high of $5,594.82 per ounce on January 29 before retreating. By Thursday's close, the precious metal stood at $4,473.89 per ounce, representing a decline of about 20 percent from the peak.

Recent market data indicates that some of the forces behind gold’s strong rally have begun to moderate. Central bank purchases have levelled off compared with the exceptionally strong buying seen between 2022 and 2024, while jewellery demand in major consuming markets such as China and India has softened as elevated prices weigh on consumer spending.

Investors are also closely watching monetary policy expectations, geopolitical developments and movements in energy markets, all of which continue to influence sentiment in the global gold trade. As international prices fluctuate, Dubai’s retail gold rates are expected to remain responsive to shifts in the broader market.
