UAE travel alert: Etihad waives flight change fees until March 2027
Fare differences and standard ticket conditions still apply
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways has introduced a significant update to its ticketing policy, offering travellers greater flexibility when planning their journeys.
The UAE national airline confirmed that passengers booking flights from March 6, 2026, will benefit from no change fees, with the offer remaining valid until March 31, 2027. The move comes as part of broader efforts to support passengers amid evolving travel conditions while maintaining a consistent global schedule.
Under the revised policy, travellers are permitted to make one free date change to their booking without incurring a change fee. The initiative is designed to provide reassurance for those making forward travel plans, particularly during periods where schedules and demand may fluctuate.
Key terms
While the removal of change fees introduces added convenience, standard fare conditions continue to apply. Passengers who fail to show up for their flights will still face no-show charges, and refund requests remain subject to applicable fees. Additionally, travellers may need to pay any fare difference if the new travel date falls within a higher-priced period.
Pricing variations are influenced by demand, with peak travel seasons and surcharges potentially increasing ticket costs. The airline maintains a dynamic pricing model, meaning rebooked flights could carry a higher fare depending on availability and timing.
Passengers are advised to review their booking details before departure and stay updated through official channels to avoid disruptions.
Booking options
Tickets remain available through the airline’s official website and authorised travel agents. Travellers who booked via agents are required to contact them directly for assistance with refunds or rebooking.
Self-service options are also available, allowing passengers to manage bookings online or via the airline’s mobile application. Guests holding tickets issued on or before February 28, 2026, for travel between February 28 and April 15, 2026, are eligible to rebook or request refunds without additional charges for travel up to June 15, 2026. Rebooking beyond this date may incur fees.
From April 16, 2026, passengers affected by flight cancellations can also request refunds or rebook onto alternative Etihad flights up to June 15, 2026 without extra charges.
Etihad’s network
Etihad continues to operate an extensive commercial flight schedule, connecting Abu Dhabi to around 80 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Despite recent operational disruptions in the region, services remain active, with the airline maintaining its global connectivity.
The carrier has also expanded its route network, launching new services to Charlotte and Kabul in March 2026. These additions form part of a wider growth strategy aimed at strengthening its international footprint.
Alongside operational expansion, Etihad has reported strong financial performance, including a notable rise in annual profit. The airline has outlined plans to invest in new aircraft and upgraded onboard experiences over the coming decade, signalling continued long-term growth.
Meanwhile, Emirates has also introduced flexible travel measures, allowing passengers to make multiple date changes across cabin classes under its current waiver programme. The parallel initiatives across UAE carriers reflect a wider industry focus on adaptability and passenger confidence.
