Dubai Police win global award for most innovative public sector project
Revolutionary drone technology establishes new standards for smart policing
DUBAI – Dubai Police have won first place globally in the Most Innovative Project in the Public Sector 2025 award, presented by the GIMI Institute, for their pioneering Drone Box project.
The accolade recognises Dubai Police’s leadership in public sector innovation and their commitment to community-focused solutions that support sustainable economic development.
The international recognition highlights the Drone Box’s role in setting new benchmarks for smart security services and future-ready policing.
Major Mohammad Omar, Director of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Centre (UASC) at the General Department of Operations, said the award confirms Dubai Police’s dedication to adopting proactive solutions that keep pace with rapid technological transformation. He emphasised that innovation within Dubai Police has evolved from conceptual ideas into an embedded institutional practice, supported by national talent with advanced technical expertise. Major Omar added that the recognition represents more than a single project, showing that government entities can compete globally when creativity and innovation are placed at the core of their operations.
Drone Box technology
Developed by the General Department of Operations, the Drone Box system is an advanced platform enabling automated deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles from strategically placed stations across Dubai. The technology allows Dubai Police to reduce response times to traffic and criminal incidents to just a few minutes by transmitting live video feeds directly to the Command and Control Centre without human intervention.
The system is used for traffic monitoring, emergency response, rescue operations, and crisis management, in line with Dubai’s vision to be one of the world’s safest cities.
The Drone Box is distinguished by rapid response capability, autonomous drone operations, beyond visual line-of-sight live streaming, and advanced sensor technologies. It supports security and traffic patrols in the field, strengthening operational readiness and safety across the emirate.
Implemented under directives from Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, the project reinforces the force’s strategic vision of integrating technology, efficiency, and community-focused policing.
