Is UAE granting golden visa to cryptocurrency investors?
VARA confirms TON is not licensed under its regulatory framework
ABU DHABI: The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) have jointly denied recent online reports claiming that cryptocurrency investors qualify for the UAE Golden Visa programme.
In a formal statement, the ICP stated that golden visas are issued based on officially approved criteria. These include real estate investors, entrepreneurs, exceptional talents, scientists, top graduates, humanitarian pioneers, and frontline professionals. Investors in digital currencies are not among the eligible categories.
Investment rules explained
The SCA reaffirmed its adherence to internationally recognised financial regulations and transparency standards. It highlighted that digital asset investments are governed under specific frameworks, separate from those related to residency permits. Emphasising its commitment to investor protection, the authority warned against relying on unauthorised sources or online advertisements that may mislead the public.
VARA, the regulatory body for virtual assets in Dubai, also denied claims suggesting that holders of digital assets could access the long-term residency scheme. It reiterated that only licensed and regulated companies can offer virtual asset-related services and investments in Dubai.
TON not licensed
VARA further clarified that the company “TON” is neither licensed nor regulated by the authority. All entities under VARA’s jurisdiction must follow the visa procedures outlined by the Government of Dubai and federal entities. The authority pledged continued cooperation with SCA and law enforcement to ensure consumer protection and market integrity.
Public advised caution
The three federal bodies urged the public to remain cautious and avoid engaging with unverified offers. For accurate information, individuals should visit official platforms such as the ICP website.
