UAE-Europe travel: Etihad Airways announces first-ever Middle East nonstop flights to Luxembourg
New direct air bridge links the Grand Duchy with the UAE capital
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways has announced it will begin flying to Luxembourg in a landmark move that makes it the first Middle East airline to serve the Grand Duchy.
When the route launches on 29 October 2026, Etihad will also become the only carrier to offer nonstop flights between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi, opening a new direct air bridge between two strategically important regions. The service is aimed at meeting rising demand for premium long haul travel from Luxembourg and its neighbouring markets while strengthening connectivity with the UAE capital.
The new route will operate three times a week to Luxembourg Airport, known by its code LUX, using Etihad’s latest-generation Airbus A321LR aircraft. From Abu Dhabi, passengers will be able to access the UAE’s capital directly, with its blend of cultural landmarks, luxury hospitality and growing reputation as a global business and leisure destination.
New route
The A321LR will play a central role in the new service, delivering what Etihad describes as the most premium narrow-body experience in the region. The aircraft is configured in three classes, including First Suites and lie-flat Business seats, each offering direct aisle access for added privacy and convenience. Economy class has been designed with next-generation seating, generous legroom, 4K touchscreen entertainment systems and Bluetooth pairing, alongside high-speed Wi-Fi available throughout the cabin.
Etihad said the Luxembourg route reflects increasing demand from travellers not only in the Grand Duchy but also across the wider Benelux region, France and Germany for direct access to Abu Dhabi. The airline expects the service to appeal to both corporate and leisure markets, creating smoother links between Europe’s financial and industrial centres and the Middle East.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said the launch was made possible by the introduction of the A321LR, which entered the airline’s fleet last year. He said the aircraft enables Etihad to serve markets that would otherwise go unconnected while maintaining a full premium offering. Luxembourg, he added, will for the first time enjoy a direct connection to the Middle East, with Etihad as the sole operator on the route.
Onboard comfort
The timing of the new service has been planned to suit business travel as well as tourism. Luxembourg is one of Europe’s key financial hubs, and the direct flights will provide convenient schedules for corporate travellers moving between the Grand Duchy and the UAE capital. For leisure passengers, Abu Dhabi offers an expanding range of attractions, from the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to Yas Island’s theme parks, beaches and desert landscapes.
Visitors can also explore some of the emirate’s newest cultural institutions, including the Zayed National Museum and the Natural History Museum, both of which are becoming major draws for international travellers. The combination of year-round sunshine, luxury hotels and heritage sites is expected to boost demand from European markets now connected by the new route.
From Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, passengers arriving from Luxembourg will be able to connect seamlessly across Etihad’s global network. Popular onward destinations include Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia and India, giving the new service added value for travellers heading beyond the UAE.
European access
For travellers flying in the opposite direction, the new route opens the door to Luxembourg’s mix of historic and modern attractions. The country is known for its fairytale castles, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town and green valleys, as well as its role as a centre for European institutions and international finance. Etihad believes the direct connection will help raise the profile of the Grand Duchy among visitors from the Gulf and Asia.
Luxembourg now becomes the latest addition to Etihad’s growing European network as the airline continues to expand its footprint across the continent. Flights are already on sale through the carrier’s booking channels, with services set to begin on 29 October 2026 using the three-times-weekly A321LR operation.
