Travellers can now secure Dubai tourist visas within 48 hours
Single-entry permits available for stays of up to 60 days
DUBAI – Tourists planning a trip to Dubai can now obtain a single-entry visitor visa within 48 working hours, according to officials, as the emirate continues to streamline travel procedures and enhance its appeal as a global tourism hub.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai said 30-day and 60-day single-entry tourist visas are available to most nationalities and are typically issued within two working days once all required documents have been been submitted.
Applications are processed through accredited tourism offices using simplified procedures designed to make the visitor journey smoother from application to arrival.
Fast processing
In a recent update, GDRFA Dubai highlighted that applicants need to provide a personal photograph and a copy of a valid passport. Citizens of certain countries may also be required to submit a national identity card.
Representatives of accredited tourism offices said approvals are often granted within hours after all requirements have been fulfilled. In some cases, visitors have reportedly received their visas within two to three hours, underscoring Dubai’s drive to accelerate entry procedures.
Tourists must hold a passport with at least six months’ validity at the time of travel. They are also required to present a confirmed return or onward ticket and valid medical insurance covering their stay in the UAE.
Visa costs
The government fee for a 30-day single-entry tourist visa is approximately Dh230, including 5 per cent VAT and other applicable charges, although service and transaction fees charged by approved centres are additional.
For a 60-day visa, the fee is around Dh340. No security deposit is required for either visa category. However, applicants who request processing while already inside the UAE must pay an additional Dh500.
The visas are intended solely for tourism purposes. Separate entry permits are available for individuals exploring employment opportunities, conducting business activities, visiting family members, pursuing studies, receiving medical treatment, or undergoing rehabilitation programmes. These categories may require supporting documentation and security deposits depending on the purpose of entry.
Extension rules
Visitors wishing to remain in the country longer can apply for visa extensions. Each extension costs Dh600, while applications processed from within the UAE incur an additional Dh500 charge, excluding VAT and other fees.
Authorities said tourist visas may be extended more than once, provided approval is granted by the issuing authority. However, the total period of stay cannot exceed 120 days.
Travellers can monitor the status of their applications and permits through online services. Authorities also reminded visitors that overstaying a visa results in a fine of Dh50 per day.
