DUBAI – Dubai’s public transport system has reached a landmark achievement as its bus fleet sets a new global record for operational distance per vehicle.
Over 18 years of continuous service, each bus has surpassed 2 million kilometres, outpacing leading global cities. The milestone reflects long-term efficiency, durability, and a carefully managed transport strategy that has kept the city moving without interruption.

Global benchmark
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) fleet has become the first in the world to exceed 2 million kilometres per bus over an 18-year operational period. This figure places it significantly ahead of major international transport networks, with London recording around 1.3 million kilometres per bus and Singapore reaching approximately 1.4 million kilometres.
The achievement underlines a level of consistency and endurance that has set a new global reference point in public transport operations, supported by uninterrupted daily service across the city.
Fleet performance
The buses have not only exceeded their expected service lifespan but have also maintained strong operational efficiency throughout their use. In 2025, the fleet recorded an availability rate exceeding 93%, supported by a notably low fault rate when compared with global standards.
