US inflation data to influence gold market trends
DUBAI gold rates continued their upward trend on Monday, with 24-karat gold priced at Dh406.75 per gram.
This level reflects a minor decrease from Saturday’s peak of Dh409.25 but remains comfortably above last Monday’s Dh404.75, showing the market’s overall upward momentum over the past week.
The 22-karat gold rate today is Dh376.75 per gram, while 21K and 18K stand at Dh361.25 and Dh309.50 respectively. All categories continue to trade at elevated levels compared to the previous week, sustaining a gradual price rally.
Today’s global gold trends
Globally, gold slipped by 0.7% to $3,376.67 per ounce early Monday, following a reduction in safe-haven demand. This was influenced by easing geopolitical tensions after the announcement of an upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, expected to discuss the Ukraine conflict.
US gold futures for December delivery dropped 1.5% to $3,439.70. The market focus is now firmly on the upcoming US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data due Tuesday. Analysts forecast a 0.3% increase in core inflation, raising the annual figure to 3.0%, above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, a key factor shaping interest rate expectations.
Speculators on the COMEX gold exchange have increased their net long positions by nearly 19,000 contracts to 161,811 as of early August, indicating strong investor interest amid prospects of Fed rate cuts later this year.
Trade talks between Washington and Beijing also remain in focus with a looming August 12 deadline, potentially impacting commodity markets including gold.
Dubai gold
While global gold prices showed some decline today, Dubai’s local market remains resilient with prices close to recent highs. The combination of inflation data, geopolitical developments, and trade negotiations will continue to influence price movements in the near term.
