UAE announces New Year 2026 holiday
Remote work scheduled for most federal employees on January 2
ABU DHABI – The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has confirmed that New Year’s Day 2026 will be observed as a holiday for the federal government.
Thursday, 1st January 2026, will be a public holiday, while Friday, 2nd January 2026, is designated as a remote working day for federal employees, except those whose duties require on-site presence.

Remote work arrangements
Most federal government staff will work remotely on January 2, allowing continuity of essential services while observing flexible working arrangements. Employees whose roles require physical presence at offices will continue their duties as usual.
New Year greetings
In its announcement, the Authority extended congratulations and best wishes to the leadership, government, and people of the UAE. Residents were also wished good health and well-being, marking the occasion of welcoming 2026.
