DUBAI’s gold market showed upward momentum on Wednesday, with all major gold carat categories seeing a price increase despite broader expectations of a softening trend.

The local uptick comes against the backdrop of international price gains driven by geopolitical uncertainty.

As of June 11, 2025, 24K gold is trading at Dh402.75 per gram, up from the previous Dh398.50. Spot gold globally rose 0.5% to $3,339.60 an ounce, while US gold futures climbed to $3,361.20 – a 0.5% gain – supported by uncertainty over the finalisation of a US-China trade deal and upcoming US inflation data.

In Dubai, the 22K gold rate has increased to Dh373 per gram from Dh369, where it had remained steady for the past four days. Similarly, 21K gold now trades at Dh357.50, and 18K gold is priced at Dh306.25 per gram, both showing modest increases.

The recent jump in local prices marks a notable shift after a period of stability. Despite broader market expectations of a downward correction, the Dubai retail rate has moved in tandem with international movements.

Why are global gold prices up?

Gold’s global appeal strengthened following news that US and Chinese officials agreed on a trade framework, though final approval is still pending. Investors turned to gold as a safe haven, further buoyed by expectations around US consumer inflation figures due later today. This environment continues to support higher gold prices internationally.

What’s driving gold buying in UAE?

In the UAE, Indian expats preparing for summer travel are adjusting their buying habits. With India reducing import duties on gold last year, heavy jewellery purchases are being replaced by lighter, more portable pieces. Shoppers are also responding to Indian customs limits – 20 grams for men and 40 grams for women – making lighter gold a practical choice.

The combination of international volatility and evolving local demand is currently shaping Dubai's gold pricing trends – now edging higher rather than softening.
