Kuwait declares holiday for Prophet Mohammad’s birthday 2025; UAE date awaited
Extended weekend for public sector employees in September
DUBAI: Kuwait will observe a public sector holiday on Thursday, September 4, 2025, to mark the birthday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the Kuwait News Agency reported.
The decision, made during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al Sabah, will suspend work across all ministries, government bodies, and public institutions.
With Friday and Saturday already the weekend in Kuwait, the timing means a three-day break for many government employees. Official duties will resume on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Essential departments will determine their own schedules based on operational needs.
Prophet Mohammad’s birthday
The Prophet’s birthday falls on the 12th day of Rabi’ Al Awwal in the Islamic calendar. If the lunar month begins on August 23, 2025, the date would be Wednesday, September 3; if it begins on August 24, it will be Thursday, September 4.
What about the UAE?
The UAE Cabinet has declared the Prophet’s birthday a nationwide holiday, though the exact date for 2025 is yet to be confirmed.
Under current regulations, holidays other than Eid can be shifted to align with weekends by Cabinet decision. Local governments in each emirate may also add extra days.
If the UAE date aligns with Thursday, residents could enjoy a long weekend similar to Kuwait.
