DUBAI’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has rolled out a state-of-the-art traffic signal system named UTC-UX Fusion, integrating artificial intelligence and digital twin technology to revolutionise the city’s traffic flow.

Unlike traditional fixed-cycle systems, this innovation adapts signal timings dynamically using real-time traffic data.

AI-driven adjustments

The system continuously monitors road conditions, predicts upcoming traffic patterns, and updates signal cycles accordingly.

Before any changes are made, the technology runs simulations on a virtual replica of Dubai’s road network, ensuring effective, tested solutions are applied in the real world.

Boosting traffic flow

Key features include demand-based prioritisation and improved signal response during peak hours. Upcoming phases will connect the system to additional sensors, enabling even more precise adjustments.

Initial figures point to a potential 20% drop in journey times across Dubai’s busiest roads, while intersections are already seeing better performance and reduced wait times.

Wider city upgrades

UTC-UX Fusion is part of a wider RTA plan to modernise Dubai’s transport ecosystem. This summer, traffic flow enhancements are slated for 40 key locations, including improved access points and safer pedestrian crossings.
