ABU DHABI – The UAE capital is preparing to host the “Run for the Nation” Sports Run on Saturday, April 18, with the event set to begin at 8am from Wahat Al Karama.

Open to participants of all ages and fitness levels, the initiative is expected to draw thousands, including families, fitness enthusiasts and community members from across the emirate.

The event combines sport with a broader national message, aiming to encourage healthy lifestyles while reinforcing values of unity, belonging and respect. The choice of venue carries particular significance, as Wahat Al Karama stands as a national landmark honouring the sacrifices of the UAE’s martyrs.

Community spirit

Organisers say the run is designed to be an inclusive, community-driven experience, welcoming individuals regardless of nationality or pace. Participation is free, with the organising committee placing emphasis on accessibility and engagement across all segments of society.

In a statement, Lt Gen (r) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi highlighted that the initiative reflects the UAE leadership’s vision of strengthening national identity and social cohesion. He noted that the event brings together sport and recognition of the contributions made by frontline heroes, while fostering a shared sense of pride and unity.

National values

The run also serves as a platform to honour the legacy of those who have served the nation, reinforcing a culture of appreciation and remembrance. By linking physical activity with national reflection, the initiative underscores the importance of collective responsibility and social harmony.

Al Kaabi further stressed that comprehensive organisational measures have been put in place to ensure safety and a smooth experience for all participants. He encouraged residents to take part in what he described as a meaningful occasion celebrating the UAE’s inclusive and cohesive society.

How to register

The “Run for the Nation” forms part of a wider calendar of sporting and community activities taking place across Abu Dhabi throughout April. These initiatives aim to enhance quality of life, promote wellbeing and strengthen values of coexistence and tolerance across the emirate’s diverse population.
