Traffic violations carry heavy fines, points and vehicle impoundment
ABU DHABI – Residents in the UAE capital are being reminded to follow strict rules when organising celebratory marches and gatherings, as authorities reinforce safety measures across Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Police has issued clear guidance urging the public to avoid spontaneous road celebrations without prior approval. The advisory comes amid concerns over unsafe practices that could disrupt traffic and endanger lives.
Officials emphasised that any form of organised march or public celebration must first be coordinated with the relevant authorities. This ensures proper planning, crowd control and traffic management, particularly during peak periods or large-scale events.
Permit rules
According to authorities, holding marches or celebratory gatherings without official approval is not permitted under UAE law. Proper organisation is seen as essential to maintaining public order and ensuring that emergency services and daily traffic are not disrupted.
Authorities highlighted that legally organised events contribute to smoother traffic flow and improved security conditions. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with officials and report any violations, reinforcing a broader culture of public responsibility.
Traffic risks
The Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols warned against dangerous behaviours often associated with unregulated celebrations. These include gathering on roads, obstructing traffic, and individuals leaning out of vehicle windows or sunroofs during moving convoys.
Such actions are classified as traffic violations due to the risks they pose to both participants and other road users. Officials stressed that even seemingly harmless celebratory acts can quickly escalate into hazardous situations, particularly on busy roads.
Fines
Under Article 1 of the UAE traffic law, driving in a manner that endangers lives or safety carries a fine of Dh2,000, along with 23 traffic points and vehicle impoundment for 60 days.
Meanwhile, Article 94 addresses unauthorised marches. Vehicles participating in such processions without a permit face a Dh500 fine, four traffic points, and 15 days of impoundment for light vehicles.
Authorities reiterated that these penalties are in place to deter risky behaviour and ensure that public spaces remain safe for all. The enforcement of these rules reflects ongoing efforts to balance community celebrations with road safety and legal compliance.
The advisory forms part of broader initiatives by Abu Dhabi authorities to enhance awareness around responsible celebration practices, particularly during national events and festive occasions, when the likelihood of spontaneous gatherings tends to increase.
