Kuwait introduces 4 new tourist visa categories with flexible stay options
Latest rules bring tailored options for travellers worldwide
DUBAI: Kuwait has unveiled a new tourist visa system featuring four categories, each designed to suit different traveller profiles.
Announced by the Government Information Center, the update introduces more flexibility in stay durations, ranging from 30 days to a full year, and caters to visitors based on nationality, qualifications, travel history, or event participation.
The change marks a significant shift from the one-size-fits-all approach, aiming to make the country more accessible while maintaining clear entry regulations.
What are the four categories?
Category 1 – Passport-Privileged Travellers
This tier is open to citizens from countries with high-ranking passports and strong economic indicators. Eligible travellers gain access to the widest range of visa options, including both short- and long-term stays, with minimal restrictions.
Category 2 – GCC Citizens, Skilled Expats, and Trusted Travellers
This group includes Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens, expatriates with professional qualifications, holders of valid US, UK, or Schengen visas, and GCC residents with residence permits. The criteria allow for smoother entry for professionals and frequent travellers already vetted by other major visa systems.
Category 3 – Coming Soon With Financial Proof
Planned for launch soon, this category will apply to other nationalities not covered in the first two tiers. Applicants will need to show proof of financial solvency along with additional guarantees before entry.
Category 4 – Event-Specific Visitors
Visitors travelling to Kuwait for conferences, festivals, or other activities fall under this category. The terms, including validity and stay, will be customised according to the nature of the event.
How long can you stay?
The new system offers both single and multiple-entry options:

These options allow for both short sightseeing trips and multiple business or leisure visits spread over months.
When does visa-on-arrival apply?
In addition to the four categories, Kuwait has introduced visa-on-arrival for all GCC residents. This applies if travellers meet two conditions:
- A valid GCC residency permit with at least six months before expiry.
- A valid passport.
This makes travel easier for residents of Gulf countries, whether for tourism, family visits, or short business trips.
