DUBAI – Dubai will mark the tenth edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge from October 31 to November 29, 2026, building on nearly a decade of encouraging residents and visitors to make physical activity part of everyday life.

The milestone edition is set to be the largest and most community-focused since the initiative was launched in 2017. Over 30 days, people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels will be invited to complete at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day.

The 2026 edition will bring together a packed programme of fitness events, community activities and free opportunities to exercise across the emirate. Organised by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and the Dubai Sports Council, the programme will feature four flagship events, Fitness Villages, Fitness Hubs and thousands of classes, events and activations.

The Challenge was launched under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. What began with a simple 30-day fitness target has since developed into a citywide movement that has attracted more than 16 million participants across its first nine editions.

A decade of change

The first Dubai Fitness Challenge in 2017 demonstrated the scale of interest in creating a more active city. Some 786,000 people responded to the inaugural call to complete 30 minutes of activity for 30 consecutive days, establishing a strong foundation for an initiative that would grow significantly with each edition.

From the beginning, accessibility was central to the Challenge. Activities were made free and available across the emirate, allowing residents and visitors to take part regardless of age, ability or background. The approach helped turn fitness from an individual pursuit into a shared community experience, with people taking part in organised events as well as activities close to their homes and workplaces.

Participation continued to grow over subsequent editions. By 2025, more than three million people had taken part in a single edition, while cumulative participation across the first nine editions surpassed 16 million.

The programme has also expanded considerably since its launch. Its growing network of activities, facilities and community events has created more opportunities for people to incorporate movement into their daily routines, while the Challenge itself has become an established part of Dubai's annual calendar.

Flagship events

The Dubai Fitness Challenge's programme has developed through the introduction of major mass-participation events designed to bring people together in distinctive locations across the city.

Dubai Run made its debut in 2019 as the first flagship event, establishing a major citywide platform for participants to take part in a mass running experience. The following year, Dubai Ride joined the programme, bringing cyclists of different abilities together on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The Challenge expanded again in 2023 with the introduction of Dubai Stand Up Paddle in Hatta, bringing water-based activity into the programme. Dubai Yoga followed in 2024, adding another accessible form of physical activity and broadening the range of experiences available to participants.

All four flagship events will return as part of the tenth edition in 2026: Dubai Run, Dubai Ride, Dubai Stand Up Paddle and Dubai Yoga.

The wider programme will also include Fitness Villages, Fitness Hubs and thousands of activities taking place throughout the emirate. These will provide opportunities for participants to exercise in different settings and choose activities suited to their interests and fitness levels.

More places to exercise

Fitness Hubs have become another key part of the Challenge's development. In 2019, 11 hubs were established across Dubai, offering residents free and accessible spaces to exercise within their communities.

The network expanded steadily through subsequent editions. By 2025, the number of Fitness Hubs had reached 30 across the city, creating a broader network of locations where residents could participate in organised activities and maintain an active routine during the Challenge.

The growth of these spaces has accompanied the wider expansion of opportunities for physical activity across Dubai. Running and cycling tracks, outdoor fitness facilities and community-based activities have contributed to a growing network of options for people looking to stay active.

For the tenth edition, the combination of Fitness Hubs, Fitness Villages, flagship events and thousands of additional activities is expected to create one of the most extensive programmes in the Challenge's history.

Building daily habits

The Dubai Fitness Challenge's 30-day format remains centred on a straightforward target: 30 minutes of physical activity every day for 30 consecutive days. The format is designed to encourage participation across different levels of ability, with people able to choose activities that suit their individual interests and routines.

The initiative has continued to position the 30-day commitment as an opportunity to establish regular habits rather than as a standalone fitness programme. Its annual return provides a citywide platform for residents and visitors to try new activities, take part in community events and incorporate more movement into their routines.

Digital innovation will also form part of the tenth edition, with the 2026 programme set to use new ways of connecting with participants and expanding the Challenge's reach.

As Dubai prepares for the milestone edition, the programme will once again open participation to residents and visitors across the emirate, bringing together mass events, neighbourhood activities, fitness facilities and community-led experiences from October 31 through November 29.
