UAE weather: Rain returns to Dubai as thunderstorms sweep northern emirates
Morning storms lash Al Ain, Sharjah and coastal zones
DUBAI – Rain swept across parts of the UAE early Monday, marking the start of another day of unstable weather across the country.
Showers began before dawn in Al Ain, Sharjah and sections of Dubai, with convective clouds continuing to build over the northern and eastern regions.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecast more rainfall and possible thunderstorms as the day progresses, warning of strong winds and blowing dust that may reduce visibility in some areas.

The current spell of wet weather follows a weekend of scattered downpours that brought cooler air and cloudy skies nationwide. Videos shared by weather observers captured heavy rain in Al Ain’s Jebel Hafeet area, along with light showers in Dubai Production City and Jebel Ali.

Monday forecast and conditions
For Monday, 13 October, the general weather will remain partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with convective clouds expected over northern, eastern and some internal and southern areas, as well as offshore islands. These clouds could lead to scattered rainfall and thunderstorms, especially in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Al Ain.
Temperatures will range between 34°C and 38°C along coastal and island areas, and up to 40°C inland. Mountainous regions will be noticeably cooler, with highs between 26°C and 30°C.

Winds are forecast to be light to moderate but may freshen to strong levels, reaching up to 55 km/h near clouds. These gusts could lift dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility, particularly in exposed desert and open areas.
Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea will be slight to moderate, occasionally turning rough during cloud activity.

Humidity levels are set to rise tonight and into early Tuesday morning, increasing the chance of fog or mist formation, especially in western regions.
Weekly weather outlook
Tuesday, 14 October: Fair to partly cloudy skies are expected, with convective clouds forming eastward and southward that could bring more rain. Winds will be southeasterly to northwesterly at 15–30 km/h, reaching 40 km/h at times. The sea will remain slight to moderate, while humidity will increase overnight with a chance of fog or mist.
Wednesday, 15 October: Fair to partly cloudy conditions continue, with low clouds forming over eastern and southern regions. Nights will be humid, with fog or mist possible over coastal and internal areas. Winds will shift gradually, remaining light to moderate, occasionally freshening to 35 km/h.
Thursday, 16 October: Skies will stay partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy, with humidity rising at night and early morning. Winds will be southeasterly to northeasterly at 10–25 km/h, reaching 35 km/h at times. Seas will remain slight to moderate.
Friday, 17 October: The pattern of fair to partly cloudy weather will persist, with fog or mist likely before dawn. Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally fresh, and the sea will remain slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.
Advisories and safety alerts
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious amid the fluctuating weather. The NCM has reminded the public to stay away from valleys, wadis and areas prone to flash floods, particularly during heavy rain or thunderstorms. Residents are also advised to avoid open or elevated spaces during lightning activity and to stay indoors when severe weather warnings are issued.
Motorists are being warned to drive carefully, reduce speed, and maintain safe distances during rainfall or dust storms. Drivers are also advised to ensure their wipers, brakes and headlights are functioning properly and to avoid overtaking on slippery roads.
In areas where winds are strong, visibility may drop suddenly due to blowing sand and dust. Residents are encouraged to keep windows closed and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of low visibility.
Maritime authorities have advised fishermen and small craft operators to remain vigilant, as rough seas are expected intermittently in the coming days.
Cooler air ahead
With the onset of the rainy spell, temperatures across the UAE are expected to drop slightly over the next few days. The lowest temperature recorded on Monday morning was 18.1°C in Jais Mountain, Ras Al Khaimah, while highs are forecast to stay below 40°C for much of the week.
The NCM and local emergency authorities continue to monitor the changing weather closely, urging residents to follow only official updates and alerts through verified government channels.
