DUBAI has unveiled a new 91-metre pedestrian and bicycle bridge across Sheikh Rashid Street, boosting connectivity between Al Mankhool and Al Jafilya.

Opened by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the bridge is expected to serve more than 22,000 people daily, providing safe passage across one of the city’s busiest routes.

Positioned strategically near public bus stations and commercial centres, it links residential neighbourhoods to transit hubs and economic zones.

Accessible for all

The structure is fully equipped with elevators and stairs on both ends, offering seamless access for people of determination, cyclists, and parents with strollers.

It’s the latest addition in Dubai’s urban push for a pedestrian-friendly future. Designed with inclusivity in mind, the bridge provides an alternative to street-level crossings, helping reduce pedestrian incidents and offering a fine-free route – avoiding the Dh400 penalty for jaywalking on major roads.

Design meets heritage

Incorporating elements of the UAE’s maritime legacy, the bridge reflects the aesthetics of traditional diving and commercial vessels. The design complements the nearby Sheikh Rashid Tunnel, adding a cultural layer to Dubai’s modern infrastructure. It’s a visible fusion of form and function, showing how mobility upgrades can also pay tribute to history.

Part of bigger picture

This development comes just as the RTA completed a major milestone on the Shindagha Corridor Project. The fifth and final bridge at the Sheikh Rashid–Al Mina Street Interchange was finished on 11 May. This larger initiative – stretching from Al Garhoud Bridge to the Infinity Bridge – has reduced travel time along the corridor from 80 to just 12 minutes.
