Flying with pets gets easier as Etihad unveils discounted onboard service
Cats and dogs can fly safely alongside owners in cabin
ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways has introduced a limited-time promotional offer designed to make travelling with pets more accessible, as demand for pet-friendly air travel continues to grow.
The Abu Dhabi-based airline is offering its existing Pets Onboard service at a reduced rate, enabling more passengers to bring their cats and dogs into the aircraft cabin. The initiative reinforces Etihad’s position as the only UAE carrier currently offering in-cabin pet travel.
The promotion applies to bookings and travel completed by 31 May 2026, with a fixed rate of $399 per flight segment. The airline stated that while the price has been reduced for a limited period, the level of service, safety standards and onboard care remain unchanged.
Cabin comfort
Under the Pets Onboard service, small cats and dogs are permitted to travel inside the cabin with their owners, provided they remain in an approved carrier for the duration of the flight. In Economy Class, the carrier is placed under the seat in front, ensuring compliance with cabin safety regulations. Passengers seeking additional space have the option to purchase an extra seat for their pet.
In Business Class, pets are accommodated with a dedicated seat, allowing for greater space and comfort during the journey. The arrangement is designed to maintain consistency across cabin classes while prioritising the wellbeing of both animals and passengers.
Etihad noted that travelling in the cabin helps reduce stress for pets, particularly when compared with cargo transport, and allows owners to remain close to their animals throughout the flight.
Growing demand
The airline’s latest move comes amid increasing global demand for pet-inclusive travel options. More passengers are choosing to travel with their animals, prompting airlines to expand and refine their offerings.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said the service responds directly to evolving passenger needs. He noted that for many travellers, pets are considered part of the family, making it increasingly important to provide options that allow them to travel together.
The Pets Onboard service reflects a broader shift within the aviation industry, where customer experience is being shaped by more personalised and flexible travel solutions. Etihad’s promotional pricing is expected to encourage higher uptake, particularly among frequent travellers and long-haul passengers.
Travel support
Beyond the onboard experience, Etihad has also highlighted the support available to passengers travelling with pets. Dedicated teams assist with pre-travel preparations, including documentation, health requirements and compliance with destination regulations.
The airline emphasised that these measures are intended to ensure a smooth and stress-free journey from booking through to arrival. By offering guidance at every stage, Etihad aims to reduce uncertainty for passengers navigating the often complex requirements associated with international pet travel.
Further details on eligibility, booking procedures and pet travel guidelines are available through the airline’s official website.
