Ajman bans all bicycles and e-scooters on public roads
Crackdown follows video evidence of riders breaking traffic rules
DUBAI – Ajman Police have imposed a comprehensive ban on the use of both electric scooters and bicycles of all types on public roads and streets.
The decision, announced this week, is aimed at reducing accidents and ensuring traffic safety across the emirate.
Authorities stressed that these modes of transport should only be used in designated areas.

What prompted the ban?
The restrictions come after video footage last month showed widespread violations, with riders flouting traffic laws. Clips revealed individuals riding without helmets, weaving dangerously through cars, travelling against one-way traffic, and even using pedestrian crossings incorrectly – behaviour that placed both commuters and pedestrians at risk.

All categories of electric scooters, from privately owned devices to shared rental models, are included in the ban, alongside bicycles of every type.

Police confirmed that offenders could face fines or confiscation of their vehicles, though specific penalties have not yet been disclosed.
When does it apply?
Effective immediately, the ban also aligns with preparations for the new academic year.
Ajman Police said their campaign is focused on creating a safe environment around schools and maintaining smooth traffic flow as students return to classrooms.
