Dubai advances green hospitality with sustainable tourism stamp
Eco-friendly hotels recognised under new three-tier framework
DUBAI – The Sustainable Tourism Stamp initiative has been introduced in Dubai as part of its continued eco-conscious approach to hospitality.
Developed in collaboration with the hotel sector, it aims to position Dubai as a global leader in sustainable tourism while strengthening long-term resilience across the industry.
The programme supports the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 initiative and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, reinforcing both environmental responsibility and economic growth priorities. It also complements existing international sustainability frameworks rather than replacing them, ensuring alignment with global best practice standards.
Eco-friendly hospitality
The initiative focuses on encouraging hotels to meet 19 defined Sustainability Requirements, covering areas such as energy efficiency, responsible resource use and operational best practices. It is designed to foster a stronger culture of environmental accountability across the hospitality sector.
The programme also helps hotels clearly communicate their green credentials to environmentally conscious travellers, enhancing transparency and supporting informed travel choices in Dubai.
Three-tier recognition system
The Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp operates on a three-tier structure of Gold, Silver and Bronze, reflecting varying levels of compliance with sustainability standards. This system recognises incremental progress among participating hotels while motivating continuous improvement.
Hotels awarded the stamp for 2024 were announced in February 2025, highlighting the sector’s growing adoption of sustainable practices across operations.
