Riyadh Air orders up to 50 Airbus A350-1000 jets at Paris Air Show
What destinations will the Saudi airline cover using its long-range aircraft?
DUBAI: Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s newest national airline, has placed a landmark order for up to 50 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft at the 55th Paris Air Show, marking a significant step forward in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy.
The order comprises 25 firm aircraft with options for 25 more, demonstrating Riyadh Air’s commitment to building a world-class aviation network.
The deal was formalised at Paris–Le Bourget Airport, with a signing ceremony attended by Adam Boukadida, Riyadh Air’s Chief Financial Officer, and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President Sales for Commercial Aircraft. Also present were PIF Governor and Riyadh Air Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas, and Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer.

Fleet expansion
With this latest agreement, Riyadh Air’s total aircraft order has increased to 182. The new A350-1000 widebody jets, capable of flying up to 16,000 km, will be instrumental in connecting Saudi Arabia’s capital to over 100 international destinations by 2030. The aircraft’s ultra-long range positions Riyadh Air to serve major cities across six continents, aligning with the Kingdom’s plans to host global events such as Riyadh Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034.
Riyadh Air is set to operate a three-type fleet, and the Airbus A350-1000 will play a central role in optimising its network reach and operational efficiency. The airline has also revealed a premium First Class cabin on the A350, complementing its Business Class and modern interiors designed to enhance passenger experience.
Vision 2030 goals
Commenting on the milestone, Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan said, “Our new national carrier is set to take to the skies in the near future, and as a fundamental element of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure, will connect our capital city to over 100 international destinations around the globe by 2030.”
Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas added, “Already in 2025, we have received our AOC and unveiled our new cabin interiors and having now completed our initial three aircraft orders, we are in a position to fulfil our ambitious network goals.”
The airline’s rapid progress includes the receipt of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC), with its maiden flight expected to take off later in 2025. Riyadh Air is poised to play a transformative role in Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector, aiming to generate 200,000 direct and indirect jobs and contribute nearly $20 billion to the non-oil GDP.
Sustainable and smart
Airbus Chief Executive Officer for Commercial Aircraft, Christian Scherer, praised the partnership, stating, “We are honoured to support Riyadh Air’s bold vision with the A350-1000, the world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft.”
The airline’s fleet will feature the latest digital in-flight entertainment systems, state-of-the-art connectivity solutions, and advanced cabin designs, promising a luxurious and seamless passenger journey. The A350-1000, known for its fuel efficiency and sustainability, is aligned with both Riyadh Air’s environmental goals and the Kingdom’s broader green initiatives.
Strategic role
Riyadh Air’s establishment under the Public Investment Fund (PIF) is a key part of Saudi Arabia’s plan to diversify its economy and develop untapped sectors. It supports the Kingdom’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy and the National Tourism Strategy by expanding air connectivity, increasing cargo capacity, and enhancing global accessibility.
Tourists will be able to experience Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage and natural landscapes, while business travellers will benefit from Riyadh’s emergence as a regional hub. The airline’s growth also strengthens the Kingdom’s position as a global aviation powerhouse.
Looking ahead
Founded in March 2023, Riyadh Air is envisioned as a digitally led, full-service airline that adheres to the highest international safety and sustainability standards. The airline plans to operate flights to over 100 cities worldwide by the end of the decade, connecting the Kingdom to key global destinations with world-class service and hospitality.
