Fighter jets, helicopters soar over Dubai on Day of Solidarity
DUBAI witnessed a striking display of military precision on Friday as fighter jets and helicopters flew over the city to mark the UAE’s Day of Solidarity, observed annually on 17 January. The flypast formed part of nationwide commemorations honouring unity, resilience and readiness.
Organised by the UAE Armed Forces with the Emirates Knights Air Show, the coordinated display featured helicopters and fighter aircraft flying in tight formations across key locations in Dubai. Residents gathered along beaches and open spaces to watch the aircraft pass overhead, many recording the moment as the formations moved across the skyline.
The Day of Solidarity, also known as the Day of Resolve, commemorates the January 2022 attacks on civilian infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. Three people were killed and six injured when petroleum tankers exploded in the Musaffah ICAD 3 area and at a construction site near Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The annual observance was announced to honour the victims of the attacks and to reaffirm the country’s commitment to protecting its people and preserving stability. The flypast symbolised national strength and solidarity, reflecting the close bond between the leadership, the armed forces and the public.
