DUBAIflydubai has inaugurated its twice-weekly service to Chișinău, becoming the only UAE carrier to operate direct flights to Moldova.

The new route underlines the airline’s strategy of connecting underserved markets while expanding its growing European network.

The inaugural flight landed at International Airport “Eugen Doga” Chișinău (RMO) and was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute.

Airport officials, including General Director Sergiu Spoială, received the aircraft in a ceremony highlighting the significance of the milestone for both Moldova and the UAE.

Strengthening connectivity

Jeyhun Efendi, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, said the new service opens up more options for travellers. “As our newest gateway to Europe, Moldova offers our customers more opportunities to explore previously underserved destinations. This reflects our commitment to facilitating trade and tourism while providing diverse travel choices across our network,” he said.

Sergiu Spoială added that the route marked an important development for the airport and the country. “The launch of this direct connection to Dubai creates new opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange. This partnership strengthens our role as a key gateway in the region and fosters closer economic ties between Moldova and the United Arab Emirates.”

Expanding European network

Chișinău, Moldova’s capital, is renowned for its blend of architectural styles, leafy parks and landmarks such as the Triumphal Arch. The new service adds to flydubai’s European footprint, which will expand further this year with new destinations. The airline is scheduled to launch flights to Iași, its second destination in Romania, on 19 September, followed by Vilnius in Lithuania and Riga in Latvia in December.

flydubai now operates a network of more than 135 destinations across 57 countries, supported by a fleet of 94 Boeing 737 aircraft. Its strategy focuses on opening connections to cities previously not linked to the UAE by direct flights.

Flight details

The Dubai–Chișinău flights operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays from Terminal 2, Dubai International Airport. Emirates will codeshare on the route, offering passengers more connection opportunities through Dubai’s hub.
