Remote work advised as rains, storms disrupt daily life in UAE
Offices, parks and services close as rain batters country
DUBAI – Authorities across the UAE moved swiftly on Friday to reduce public movement and ensure safety as heavy rain and thunderstorms continued to affect several emirates.
Government departments implemented remote working measures, while the private sector was urged to follow flexible arrangements where possible.
Government workforce
Government entities nationwide adopted remote work for employees whose roles allow it, with exceptions made for essential positions requiring physical presence. In Ras Al Khaimah, the Executive Council announced full remote work for government employees on Friday.
Private sector
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation called on private sector companies in the most affected areas to allow employees to work from home.

Employers were also reminded to prioritise occupational health and safety and comply with local directives.
Closures announced
Several public facilities were temporarily closed due to weather conditions. Parks and beaches in Abu Dhabi were shut, while Dubai Municipality announced the closure of beaches, parks and open-air markets. Sharjah suspended public parking fees for the day.

Customer Happiness Centres in Ajman and driving test centres in Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain were also closed, with services redirected online.
Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority urged private schools to avoid outdoor or off-campus activities and confirmed the suspension of Life Camps – Winter Edition weekend programmes. A Family Day workshop scheduled for December 20 was postponed to December 27.
