Ramadan 2026: Dubai Police iftar cannon backs Dh1 billion Edge of Life drive
Initiative seeks to rescue five million children worldwide
DUBAI – The Dubai Police Iftar Cannon, a Ramadan tradition closely followed across the emirate, is set to play a pivotal role in advancing the ‘Edge of Life’ campaign this year.
The initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, aims to rescue five million children from hunger around the world. The campaign seeks to raise a minimum of Dh1 billion to support sustainable efforts combating childhood malnutrition.
Throughout the holy month, the Iftar Cannon segment, broadcast live daily on Dubai TV and Sama Dubai TV, will announce the name of one contributor donating Dh1 million or more. The move is designed to encourage further participation from individuals and institutions, reinforcing the campaign’s humanitarian mission.
Ramadan tradition
Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, affirmed that the initiative reflects the UAE’s deeply rooted culture of generosity and giving. He noted that the campaign underscores the nation’s ongoing commitment to mobilising humanitarian aid for the world’s most vulnerable communities.
Al Marri stated that the Ramadan campaign carries profound humanitarian messages aligned with the leadership’s vision of supporting those in need. He added that Dubai Police’s participation highlights its commitment to strengthening the UAE’s charitable and philanthropic efforts.
Edge of Life
The campaign focuses on children facing the threat of hunger, particularly in regions affected by conflict and natural disasters. Global statistics indicate that five children under the age of five die every minute due to malnutrition and hunger, underscoring the urgency of coordinated international action.
Operating under the umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the initiative seeks to implement sustainable programmes addressing childhood hunger worldwide. It is organised in partnership with UNICEF, Save the Children, Children's Investment Fund Foundation, and Action Against Hunger.
Donation channels
The campaign continues to welcome contributions through seven main channels. Donations can be made via the official website, www.edgeoflife.ae, or through the dedicated toll-free call centre on 800 4999.
Bank transfers in UAE dirhams are accepted through Emirates Islamic Bank using IBAN AE940340003708472909222. Supporters may also contribute via SMS by sending the word “LIFE” to du and e& numbers: 1034 to donate Dh10, 1035 for Dh50, 1036 for Dh100 and 1038 for Dh500.
Additional donation platforms include the DubaiNow app, YallaGive.com under the ‘Donations’ tab, and Dubai’s community contributions platform Jood.
